Mobile treatment plant processes 20,000th tonne!

Horizon’s mobile treatment plant has processed over 20,000 tonnes of soil and contaminated material, passing this landmark figure earlier this month.

The Horizon group is forward thinking and we are always looking to develop our service offering.  In 2018, this saw us become the first asbestos removal company to obtain Environment Agency permits and purchase mobile plant both for the treatment of soils and contaminated material and for the treatment of waste to produce soil.

Mobile plant is used to remediate contaminated land with onsite treatment enabling the sorting and segregating of contaminated materials including asbestos from non-contaminated materials such as soil and aggregate.  It also enables screening, crushing or blending to produce soil, soil substitute or aggregates that can be recovered and used in place of virgin material.

Depending on the nature of the project and the timeframes available, onsite treatment can significantly reduce transport and disposal costs and associated carbon emissions whilst facilitating reuse (subject to appropriate planning permission, rigorous testing and certification).

Since 2018, Horizon has processed over 20,000 tonnes of soil and contaminated material through the mobile plant.  This has enabled the reuse of over 8,000 tonnes of soil, saving our clients over £700,000 in landfill tax alone.

Managing Director, Ben Ives said: “We knew when we purchased our mobile treatment plant two years ago that this would be hugely beneficial to our clients.  It’s great to be able to demonstrate so clearly the environmental and financial benefits of our investment”.
