Horizon Environmental Ltd: Exploring Innovations in Safety and Efficiency

Horizon Environmental Ltd Demonstrates Safer, More Efficient Asbestos Removal Method

At Horizon Environmental Ltd, we are always committed to identifying and implementing safer, more efficient solutions for asbestos removal. As one of the first companies to trial the Easy Gel Pack Wrap and Cut method, we have undertaken extensive testing to assess its effectiveness across a variety of working environments.

One question frequently raised during the trials was whether the technique leaves a dry, exposed edge when cutting through insulation material. Our findings confirmed that this is not the case. The gel is drawn into the cut by the blade, effectively wetting and sealing the exposed insulation. More importantly, the gel forms a highly effective physical barrier between the operative and potentially harmful dust, significantly reducing the opportunity for fibre release.

During testing, a small patch of dry material was observed in the shadow of the pipe itself. However, this further demonstrated the effectiveness of the gel barrier, highlighting how effectively it captures and controls fibres around the cut area.

Extensive Independent Testing

To fully evaluate the product, we conducted a comprehensive programme of trials under a range of conditions, including vertical and horizontal pipework configurations and various enclosure types. Real-time personal monitoring and background air monitoring were carried out throughout the trials to ensure accurate measurement of fibre levels.

All testing was independently overseen by FAAM and BOHS, providing confidence in both the process and the results.

The findings were extremely positive, with personal monitoring results consistently recording fibre levels between 0.02 and 0.03 f/ml. These excellent results have since been replicated across multiple sites, reinforcing the effectiveness and reliability of the method.

Key Benefits

Our trials demonstrated that, when used correctly, the Easy Gel Pack Wrap and Cut method offers several advantages over traditional injection techniques, including:

✅ Reduced exposure risk for operatives
✅ Increased productivity
✅ Reduced time spent working inside enclosures
✅ Improved overall operational efficiency

Safe Systems of Work Remain Essential

As with all asbestos removal techniques, strict adherence to the approved method of work remains critical. Any deviation from the established process has the potential to increase exposure risks. However, our experience shows that when the Easy Gel Pack method is used as intended, it delivers significant improvements in both safety and efficiency.

At Horizon Environmental Ltd, we are proud to be at the forefront of evaluating innovative technologies that help raise standards across the industry. The results achieved during these trials demonstrate the potential of the Easy Gel Pack Wrap and Cut method to support safer working practices while improving productivity on site.

Innovation, safety and continuous improvement remain at the heart of everything we do.
