Three phase project to remove and dispose of asbestos from three buildings in Mozambique

Project overview

Horizon International was employed by a confidential client to provide removal and disposal of non-notifiable asbestos-containing-material from within three sensitive buildings in Mozambique.

The most populous city in Mozambique, East Africa is on the southern tip of the country, in a large bay, near the borders with South Africa and Swaziland.  Mozambique has a warm climate with the hottest month being January, when the project required being undertaken.

January - February 2020

The work for all three phases was completed within budget and on time and we continue to work for the main client.

Project requirements

The work was to be carried out in three phases with phase one on the ground and first floor of the main building, phase two on the first floor of the annexe and phase three throughout the residential building.

The asbestos-containing-materials identified were removed and disposed of in line with the specification issued by the main client’s consultant.  All work was carried out in fully controlled conditions under the supervision of the consultant.

Challenges on site

As the work was not only overseas but in a hot climate in the height of their summer, there were many challenges.  These ranged from getting all of our specialist equipment to site (without damage and on programme) to working within a controlled area in 30-degree heat.

Each challenge was met and overcome with knowledge and experience gained by our professional team from previous work we have carried out across the globe.

Project outcome

The work for all three phases was completed within budget and on time.  We continue to work for the main client on various projects throughout the world.
