Horizon provided further resources and altered the original programme to accommodate additional works alongside the original ongoing works.

Project requirements

During these ongoing works, the Horizon Environmental Ltd site team has conducted removal works on a number of different asbestos containing materials – asbestos insulation board, asbestos insulation debris, asbestos thermal insulated pipework and asbestos sprayed coating - under fully controlled conditions. Other items included in the asbestos removal were floor tiles, fuse boxes and asbestos cement.  Upon completion of asbestos removal to the school’s multiple buildings and subsequent demolition, Horizon services were once again engaged to undertake land remediation from beneath slab level due to presence of asbestos debris throughout made ground.

Challenges on site

During asbestos removal works, additional ducting runs containing asbestos thermal insulated pipework, that had not been discovered during the initial survey, was identified throughout the building.  In order to achieve an agreeable amended programme for all parties involved in the project, Horizon provided further resources and altered the original programme to accommodate the additional works alongside the original ongoing works.

Project outcome

All works were completed successfully in April 2018 on time and within budget. The Horizon site team and contracts managers responsible for the asbestos removal works and land remediation works were given very positive feedback in regards to the works they had undertaken during their time on site from Kier site management.
